Leonard Stanley Village Hall Craft Fayre
Today we have our first Sea Witch’s Cavern Craft Fayre at Leonard Stanley near Stonehouse in Gloucestershire. We have done some fairs at local schools and other venues but the main problem with them is that the cost of the table is relatively high for a very small table and they are often cramped with no easy escape once we are behind it. Of course Event organisers being in it for fundraising or for commerical purposes are looking to make their profit from the tables and so the more stallholders they can cram in the better for them. Fortunately every event we have done my jewellery and other products have sold unlike some where they haven’t even sold enough to cover the cost of the table.
Terry and I had discussed this and Terry suggested organising our own Craft Fayres at village halls. We’d only be looking to cover the cost of the hall and our publicity costs so we could keep the numbers of stallholders down but each of us could have the space we need. Two weeks ago Terry was galvanised into action and has booked three village halls, Leonard Stanley, Edge and Cranham Village Halls. He found a great site for finding stallholders called Stallfinder.com and in spite of the short notice has a variety of stallholders booked for today and for both Edge and Cranham Village Halls.
Terry had been a fundraiser for the Red Cross for a number of years so knew what was needed and boy did he go to it. I was amazed that within a day of the decision he’d booked three halls and got several stallholders booked with more in the pipeline. He has been in charge of all the printing and distribution of leaflets and posters and he’s been buzzing around like a mad thing on his scooter ever since. I’m impressed and he told me that he was pleased with how things were working out considering he is a little old retired person.
There should be some interesting variety of products on sales with the other stallholders and there will be refreshments. My sister has been baking up a storm and will be manning the kitchen at the Village Hall for teas, coffees, squash, homemade buns and cake and other goodies.
I feel excited and I am hoping that I can report that our first Craft Fayre has been a resounding success not just for us but for the other stallholders.
